GWEN McLAREN
1950-2018
On August 15th, 1950, Gwen was born to parents Leslie and Jeanne Coward in Trail, British Columbia. She spent her formative years in Deep Cove graduating from Windsor Secondary School, before a short stint in Newfoundland and then a return home to North Vancouver. She married Douglas McLaren and had three boys: Michael, Jason and Mark. Michael and his wife, Elizabeth, gave her a granddaughter, Natalie, who she absolutely adored. Grandmothers were old, though, so she would be known as "Nana" and she was the best Nana anyone could ever have. The best, daughter, too. The best wife. The best mum. The best friend to anyone who knew her.
She was taken from the world far, far too early by a vicious, cruel disease. There were still many chapters in her life left unwritten. As it was, the final chapter ended with a fight scene, and even though she lost the battle, the memories she made and the contributions she left behind will always mean she, and her love, won the war.
Though she was a private person, we wanted you to know more about this wonderful woman and what she meant to us, and also how hard she fought at the end. We'd also love to hear from you too, and if you could share any of your own stories or memories about Gwen, that would be of great comfort to us all.
